Beginning your adventure with your buddy is a simple process. There are, in fact, lots of benefits that you can get from having a high level with your buddy, and a few of these benefits aren’t really well known. Feed your buddy some berries, and get ready to learn how your buddy can help you out on your Pokémon journey!
Earning candy
For starters, walking with your buddy will always earn you candy every few kilometers. No matter if you have your buddy on your adventure or not, you will be able to easily benefit from this reward. Adventuring buddy
With a good buddy, you will be able to see them follow your avatar around the map for as often as they are kept happy and fed! How great is it to see your favorite pokémon wander around with you on your adventure?
Readable mood
The next useful reward is the readable mood of your buddy. Many people don’t know just how powerful this reward is. At first, it may appear innocuous, but reading your buddy’s mood will tell you a lot about how many other rewards you can receive! Catch assist
If you’re attempting to catch an aggressive pokémon, you’ve surely dealt with the frustration of throwing many pokéballs into their attacks. Once you’ve reached this status with your buddy, they will bounce a pokéball back at your target that has been batted away, provided you would have gotten a ’nice’ throw or better. It’s surprising how often this feature has activated for me so far, and I’ve been able to save many more resources because of it.
Find presents
This next bonus will help keep your supplies high even more so than the last reward. When you’re great buddies with your pokémon, they will periodically bring you presents! What might be in these presents? The rewards include berries, potions, and even revives! There are rumors that you can only collect one gift from your buddy per day, just like from friends, but this is not true. I have personally collected as many as 3 gifts from my buddy in a single day. The key to receiving more gifts is to ensure your buddy is fed throughout the day. If they don’t join you on the map, they will be unable to find gifts for you.
My personal favorite reward to receive is the berries. I regularly receive up to eight berries in a single gift from my buddy’s, and this more than pays for what he can eat!

Find locations
This reward will allow your buddy to point out interesting pokéstops to you. Some of these may be locations you haven’t visited before, which can give you extra experience, and also level up your friendship with your buddy!
Find souvenirs
Your buddy will also bring you souvenirs at this level! Much like gifts, your buddy will randomly find gifts as it walks with you on the map. You can keep track of these souvenirs that you receive, and you might even notice that what your buddy finds depends on what kind of location you are in. Also notive that souvenirs and gifts look the same! You have to open them up to know what you’ve received.

CP boost
If you’ve worked this hard to level up your friendship with your buddy, you are given a significant boost that will help you in PVP aspects of the game. As long as your best buddy is actively selected as your buddy, you will receive CP boosts for battles against gyms, raids, and the Pokémon Go Battle League.
Best buddy ribbon
The last reward is the icing on the cake in terms of collector’s items. Once you have reached ‘Best Buddy’ status with your pokémon, they will begin wearing the best buddy ribbon. You can see it in your trainer profile, and your friends will even see it too!
